Our Weekend in (Two) Photographs

This weekend, Rob's family (parents and youngest brother, Ryan) came down from Iowa for a visit. This was the first time that they had been able to stay with us since I moved in because we were still figuring out where to put things and were definitely short on space. But because we recently rearranged the apartment, we were able to make room  in man cave for his parents to stay with an air mattress. The air mattress ended up being a no-go, so we pulled the futon cushion down off the futon (which is horrible to sleep on) and made a nice little cozy bed on the floor. Trust me, it was probably better than sleeping with the cushion still on the futon itself.

Stella definitely found the bed cozy and immediately claimed it the moment we made the bed. But as it turns out, Stella was not so fond of our company. It was nothing against them personally mind you. Just people in general she doesn't like. She likes us, but she's learned to tolerate us by now.

Since they didn't get to Olathe until really late on Friday night, we spent little bit of time catching up and eating cupcakes that I made before heading to bed.

Saturday, after everyone cycled through the shower (one shower + five people = eek!) we headed off to the National WWI Museum/Liberty Memorial. It is one of my favorite places and a very cool museum, so if you haven't been you should really check it out. His family had never been so we headed downtown. And of course, it was a big hit. And much to my surprise, the tower was open. They are doing a lot of work on the tower and the grounds right now, and everything I read said it was closed but as it turned out, it wasn't. Also, I just want to add how excited Rob and I (but probably mostly I) got regarding out tickets. Being military, he gets a discount - he used to be free, but now they are just half price of a $12 ticket. They don't advertise this but if you ask for AAA then you get buy one get one free. So we used both, which we didn't think they would take both and we both got in for $6. That's a pretty awesome deal if you ask me.

After we got back from the Liberty, we were all pretty exhausted, so we basically took naps and relaxed. Instead of going out and trying to find something to eat, we decided to order Mr. Goodcents in. I love that they deliver. We had discussed watching a movie, but after we ate we pulled out Bananagrams and played that several times before moving on to Smart Ass. And in my opinion, playing these games were a better use of our (limited) time together instead of a movie. During the games, much to our surprise Stella decided to grace us with her presence. Really she just need to use her litter box but she stayed out for the rest of the evening. She was certainly feeling brave. But then again, no one was calling her name or paying attention just to her, so it was a good time for her to investigate while everyone was distracted.

The next morning, after another marathon of showers and Rob making waffles and eggs, we went to First Baptist (the church Rob and I have been going to). After church I made goulash and my Cheddar Bay Biscuits, which were all delicious. We spent a little more time talking and just hanging out before they needed to head back to Iowa.

Overall, I chalk the weekend up to a success. It was a nice visit. It was an exhausting weekend because when they are jammed tight like this, they always are, but it was good and we were both glad they could come down for a visit.
