Closing the Deal

Yesterday was a big day of us. A huge day. Our wedding day was pretty major. The births of our baby and any future ones will be huge. But this was a major day still.

Yesterday we closed on our house. We signed papers. We handed over the money. We became homeowners. We own a house. Sorry, just one more time: we own our own 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath, roughly 2200 square feet of home. I can't get enough of that.

We both took the day off for the occasion - and because our appointment was at 9:00am. Fresh with nerves and excitement we headed to First American Title for closing. I won't bore you with all the details but it involved signing papers, handing over the money, and getting keys. If you have closed before than you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't then I would hate to ruin the surprise.

All in all, the process took about 45 minutes total. We did get two pens out of the deal, which are now officially the two most expensive pens I have ever owned. Oh and yeah we did get a house too. So not bad for a day off-work.

After closing we had plans to find the nearest Red Lobster and order some delicious lobster rolls. I had been looking forward to this for months after discovering they were the only place (or the only one I found) that served them here. But since they were on the lunch menu, I have had to wait until we had the opportunity to go for lunch. Upon arriving at Red Lobster we discovered they no longer had lobster rolls on the menu. The waitress said they took them off about a month ago. We missed them by a month! As you can imagine I was really disappointed. Had I known that I would have picked somewhere else to eat to celebrate. That definitely did not go as planned.

Next we were going to pick up a headlight for the Equinox which we discovered had a light out then head home to finish packing before going to the movies that evening to relax. We figured it would be a quick trip to pick up the headlight and we would replace it when we got back to the apartment and just go about our planned day. Well, it was while we were at the auto store that we learned in order to replace the headlights on that car, the entire front grill and bumper had to come off. Surprise! So our day continued down the path of less than relaxing (or planned) when we had to sit at a car body shop waiting for the car and watch a soap on TV.

We finally did make it to packing later in the afternoon (by this point we were exhausted and knew we weren't making it to the movie that evening). But all those mishaps aside it was a good day. We closed on our house. So it was an exciting day. To you it was probably just another Thursday. But to us, it was the day we became homeowners. So it was a big day. A huge day. One that is going down in the books as awesome.
