How to Boil Water: Smothered Round Steak

Who doesn't love an easy, crock pot meal on these cold winter days? I know I do. And in my attempt to be braver and try more things, I chose this meal. Which is something considering I used to hate smothered steak, but yet I voluntarily chose this meal. Two reason: One, I believe in trying things again because you never know you're taste can change (I love beef stew and when I was younger I probably wouldn't have even tried it - case and point!). And two, it looked easy - crock pot, hello?! Does it get any easier? So sometimes I'm a lazy cook - but don't get me wrong, I'm okay with that.

I found this recipe in The Taste of Home Cookbook. And I just want to throw out that I love this cookbook. It is amazing! I have found tons of easy, delicious recipes out of this book that has become favorites. (cough - beef stew - cough)

Here's What You Need:
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 pounds beef top round steak, cut into 1-1/2-inch strips
1 large onion, sliced
1 large green pepper, sliced
1 can (14.5-oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 jar (4-oz) sliced mushrooms, drained
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons molasses
Hot cooked egg noodles, optional

Here's What You  Do:
In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the flour, salt and pepper. Add beef and shake to coat. Transfer to a 3-quart slow cooker. Add the onion, green pepper, tomatoes, mushrooms, soy sauce and molasses.

Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until meat in tender. Serve with noodles if desired.

Makes: 4 servings

Total Time: 20 minutes prep; 7-8 hours cook




It was actually really good. It had a strange Chinese food taste to it with the soy sauce, but it was still really good. Plus super easy. I keep surprising myself liking things that I never though I would like. Yup, this is another favorite.
