Making the Cut: Ouch

Well, I made it! I made it my goal of five days. In fact, I made it six days this week! Look at me, rocking this work out thing! But I'm definitely feeling it.

I chose Shred It With Weights. It's a workout that uses a kettleball, which of course I don't have, but you can use a hand weight and I definitely have those. I watched it because that's what I always do and decided that would be the next one I would be doing. It looked different, so I thought I would give it a shot. It was one that I had never done before, never even attempted.

Day One & Two
I started strong. My first day of doing the exercise was pretty good. I felt good after doing the workout. I was sore after, but otherwise I was feeling great. Then the next morning came and I was suddenly afraid I would not be able to carry my almost four-month old (about 13 pounds give or take) up and down the stairs all day long. But being a mom you have to push through and I was fine. Just a bit - a lot - sore walking up and down the stairs. That was the day that Addie wouldn't nap (so that's about every day, right? ha - she's actually napping right now - crazy!), so Addie enjoyed herself some Jillian while Mama worked out.

My little weirdo loves Jillian Michaels too!

She actually sat there watching Jillian kick my butt, looking up at me every once in awhile like 'what are you doing?' I just figured I would sneak in a workout and she wasn't napping, so I figured I would do as much as possible and when she was done that was that. But she's awesome and just hung out until I was done. I was just pumped I actually did it considering how sore I was from the day before. But I was pumped that I actually did day two. Sometimes that's the hardest part.

Day Three
And day three I actually got up early. Yes, you heard right. I got up at 6:30 after laying there for a half hour awake. Addie had gotten up to eat then went back down and I couldn't fall back to sleep, so I decided to just get up. I think I was more impressed with myself that I got up early than that I actually did my workout. Mostly because I was enjoying my workout each day (more on that in another post). But me - I got up early!

Day Four
I laid on the floor for an hour thinking that I needed to get up and workout before I actually did. Addie was awake and hanging out. And I was watching The Rachael Ray Show like I do every morning. I had no motivation. I had no drive. I was just dragging. But I told myself that I had to get up. I would regret it if I didn't do my workout. If I let this day slip by me. So after getting Addie down for a nap, I got myself up and changed. But first I pulled out the swimsuit I'm aiming to wear this summer and put it on as a reminder of what I was doing and why I was doing it (although it is not the only reason). I had a new motivation. I figured even if I gave it only half of what I would normally give it, it would be more than what I was doing before - laying on the floor. But once I got into the workout, I gave it all I had. If I wanted a change. If I wanted to do this then I had to give it my all each and every day.

Day Five
At this point I was just happy to make it this far. I hadn't given up. I had given it my all. I had done it every day. I was exhausted, but feeling good. Boy am I exhausted. So exhausted that I just want to sit on my butt and do nothing. So exhausted that I barely had to the energy to type. Day five was really the day when I realized how much I'm looking forward to when I'm less exhausted from working out and just feeling better with more energy. Seriously looking forward to more energy!

Day Six
Oh yeah! At this point I feel like a rock star! I feel awesome. I made it six days. I made it six days! I'm feeling like I'm on top of the world right now. And to boot, I upped my weight to an 8-pound weight instead of the 5-pound I was using all week. I'm exhausted. But feeling pretty good. And pretty proud of myself!

Now, don't worry, I'm not going to do this every week, but I will check in every once in awhile. Helps to keep the accountability right? So far I'm pretty proud of myself. And feeling a bit sore...
