Making the Cut: The Reason

Awhile back I saw this pin on pinterest that I love. Unfortunately I didn't pin it, which I hate because I can't find it now. Basically it showed a picture of a mom in workout gear with a baby, and on the picture it said 'She is an reason, not an excuse.'

That little girl is my reason. Granted, she isn't the only reason why I am working out, but she definitely is part of it. She deserves to have a mom who can keep up with her. A mom who can play. A mom who is going to be around for a long time.

I was afraid when I decided to start working out I would find all kinds of excuses. I always have. I was a little afraid nothing was going to change. I was afraid I was going to use Addie as an excuse - she was up all night, she won't nap, she's too fussy, she's eating constantly, I'm too tired, there are a thousand other things I need to get done. The excuses could probably go on and on.

But amazingly, I haven't used them. I haven't once come up with a reason for me not to work out on a day when I'm supposed to because of Addison. I have made it work. I always try to get up before Addison but it doesn't always work. So on the days when I don't get up before her, she plays on her play mat in the living room while I work out. Then she patiently sits in her bouncer in our room (where I can see her), watching VeggieTales [seriously, that girl loves The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything] while I shower, then we move on with our day.

And this is how it has been for the last ten weeks. Can you believe it, I've been working out for ten weeks already? I've been kicking butt, if I do say so myself!

So the point of this, you shouldn't use your kid as an excuse. We all have rough days. We all have those days where things just don't go the way you wish they would. We all have those busy days. But let's be honest, not every day is like those days. And depending on what you are doing for your work out - mine are about 25-40 minutes long - you have at least 30 minutes to give of your time. It's 30 minutes. 30 minutes is nothing in the whole scheme of things. You can give 30 minutes. I can give 30 minutes. And I have for the last ten weeks.

My kid isn't my excuse. My kid is a reason. And that's exactly what she should be.
