What's In My Freezer?

Just because I know you are all curious...

I know it's a little dark on the bottom but that's my freezer. I have the kind of fridge where my freezer is a drawer pull-out on the bottom. And let me tell you, I LOVE it! It's amazing. I highly recommend a fridge like this if you are looking. Because let's face it, you spend most of your time digging in the fridge and not the freezer so it makes sense to have the fridge at eye level and not have to keep bending over to find what you're looking for.

One of the things I almost have in my freezer is squash roasted and pureed. Addison is way past the pureed stage, but when I make her mac & cheese I use this. I don't use box mac & cheese. I found an amazing recipe that using squash as the primary sauce and not cheese, although it does have cheese in it. Addison loves this mac & cheese. (Check out the recipe here.) Well, when I roast up a squash, it actually gives me enough to make the mac & cheese four different times, so I just freezer whatever is left and use it later.

Something I started doing more recently is making her waffles then freezing them. Then in the morning I pop a quarter (which is actually one serving. Did you know that one serving is not all four quarters? You have probably been way over-eating...just like the rest of us!) into the toaster then breakfast. It's quick. It's easy. It works. And it doesn't have all the processed stuff that store-bought stuff has. If you haven't figured out by now, I try cook and use as much whole foods, non-processed stuff as possible. I feel like we feel better when we do things that way, so that's just what I do. But no judgement to those who hate cooking and are all about the processed. You do what's best and what works for your family.

I always have meat in my freezer of some kind. I always buy the big family pack of chicken breast then individually wrap them in parchment paper then into a freezer bag and freeze. By doing it that way I can pull out as many as I want at a time without them all stuck to each other. I usually buy 2 pounds of ground beef at a time and divide it up into 1 pound sections and do the same. The other thing I always have in my freezer is fish, usually tilapia. I'm not crazy about fish but it's good for you, so I'm trying to deal with my fish issues. The reason why I chose tilapia is because it doesn't taste fishy or smell fishy for that matter. So that's usually what we go with. I have some great fish recipes if you are looking for some. Even Addison eats them - in fact she really likes fish.

Something that normally isn't in my freezer is ice cream, but right now there is. It was only $3 at Target and it looked so good. So we got some. We are not a household of snacks. When I go to the grocery store, I buy the things we need for meals and that's about it. Addison doesn't get snacks during the day except on special occasions. So us having ice cream is truly a rarity.

Here is your various fruits and vegetables. I am a fan of fresh but sometimes it's nice to have some freezer stuff in case you need a vegetable for a meal that you forgot to buy. I also use some these for recipes when they call for them. So there is a wide variety in here. Something I highly recommend is writing a date on them when you got them, so you know how long they've been in there. That's actually a good idea for everything that goes into your freezer.

So there you go. An exciting Monday post. But we all know you were curious. Who wouldn't be?
