A Pregnancy Story: 18 Weeks

You are about 5-1/2 inches long and weigh about 7 ounces, putting you at the size of a bell pepper.
You are busy twisting, rolling, punching, kicking, yawning, hiccuping, sucking, swallowing, flexing. With all the movement I should be able to feel you even more soon. Your blood vessels are visible through your see-through skin. Your ears have moved to their final position now, but they are still sticking out from your head a little. A protective covering is beginning to form around your nerves. If you are a girl then your uterus and fallopian tubes are developing and in place. If you are a boy then your genitals are noticeable which makes it possible to find our via ultrasound if you are a boy or girl, providing you don't hide them.

The week didn't start great. Of course on the first day of this week I threw up but it wasn't much and I was fine after. But despite that tough start, the week has been good. I love that the second trimester has been going so well and I am feeling more like myself again, with just a little extra weight. You are growing like crazy in there because my little bump just keeps getting bigger. Oh the hunger! I just can't believe how hungry I am all the time! I feel like I eat then I'm hungry 30 minutes later. So basically I feel like I'm eating all the time. Overall nothing has really happened this week. Mostly the big thing about this week is definitely finding out if we are having a boy or a girl. Otherwise it's just a typical week for this pregnant lady. Really hungry, not sleeping well, but not feeling sick. So I definitely chalk this week up to a success.

I have been waiting for this week for awhile now. This is the week when we can finally find out if we are having a boy or a girl. I have been waiting for this week for so long. I have even been dreaming about finding out the gender. Including a dream that we had to do our own ultrasound and Rob and I argued if it was a boy or girl. It's probably a good thing we don't have to do our own ultrasound because realistically we would probably argue about it. Knowing our kid, he/she would make it difficult to know, so it's best we leave it to the trained professionals. I have noticed that I am definitely more excited about finding out this time than I was with Addison. Part of that is because we were still with the high-risk OB with Addie and being first time parents everything seemed overwhelming and a little scary. But a major part is because we have waited so long to actually be pregnant and have another baby that I celebrate all the little moments. I appreciate all these moments a little more after the struggle we went through.
