A Pregnancy Story: 19 Weeks

You are weighing in at about 8-1/2 ounces and measuring 6 inches, the size of a heirloom tomato.
Your arms and legs are the right proportion to each other and the rest of you now. Your senses are in overdrive developing. Nerve cells for sense taste, hearing, sight and smell are developing in your brain. Research says that you can hear my voice now. Your kidneys are continuing to make urine. Plus hair on your scalp is sprouting; maybe  you will have hair when you are born then. You are also developing a protective coating, vernix caseosa, over your skin. It's greasy and white, but you should it by birth. It will prevent your skin from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Grow baby grow. You are doing great in there. It was great to see you and finally know that you are a boy! This week I'm doing pretty good. I've had a couple days where I got sick but overall I'm doing pretty good. Your big sister was sick this week so I'm extra tired. Considering I was tired to start out with, I'm really exhausted now. Plus she also got me sick, so I'm definitely rundown. I can definitely feel you move around a little more. It's pretty random, but I love feeling the little flutters. Your dad is pretty excited for the day when he can finally feel you. I have finally come to terms with the fact that I am going to spend this entire pregnancy starving. I can never seem to get enough to eat, but I try. Already you are going to eat me out of house and home. I am starting to gain a little bit more weight now at a faster pace. Although I have my occasional day of morning sickness, I'm feeling much better and hungry so I'm putting on some weight. I love seeing seeing my little bump growing because that means you are just growing away in there.

I kid you not, clumsiness has been my worst enemy this pregnancy. It has been one thing after another. First I cracked or even possibly broke something in my foot. It was seriously bruised and it took weeks before I could walk normally on it. I end up with little cuts on my hands that I have no idea where they came from. I dislocated my knee and had to take a break from exercise and doing much walking to let it heal. I burned my hand on a pan. I have been a wreck! Every time I turn around I am doing something else without meaning to. Usually my clumsiness is due to the major pregnancy brain I got going on. I'm so scattered all the time that I just forget what I'm doing or forget to not do something because it's going to hurt. It seems crazy to think that I could forget that something will hurt me but I'm so all over the place. I have a habit of making sure each night I have the path completely cleared to the bathroom so I don't trip. I make sure the stairs are always well lit before I walk down them. I move slowly because I tend to trip over the ground and I'm trying to avoid falling down. Pregnancy brain and clumsiness has definitely gotten the best of me this pregnancy. I'm just doing my best to make it through each day without having to visit the hospital because of some crazy thing I did.
