A Pregnancy Story: 20 Weeks

You weigh about 10-1/2 ounces and about 6-1/2 inches long from head to bottom. You are about 10
inches from head to heel, which is about the size of a banana. Apparently it was hard to measure from head to toe before 20 weeks because your legs are curled up against your torso, so all your length measurements are taken from head to bottom. You are swallowing several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, which gives your digestive system good practice. You are producing a black, sticky-by-product of digestion called meconium, which will be the first dirty diaper we will see.

This was a rough week only because your big sister got me sick and I felt awful all week. Of course over the course of the week I slowly started feeling better but it's not an instant thing. There has been a lot of lazy and and sleeping around here. I'm definitely good with the sleeping because I am still struggling to get comfortable every night, which means I'm not getting a good night's sleep. It's getting better because I have found little tricks like sandwiching myself between two pillows but some nights are way worst than others. Eating is the same. I'm doing it all the time! You are definitely growing in there because I just can't seem to stop eating. I can also feel you moving around like crazy in there. Your dad felt you for the first time the other day which is always pretty cool. But all day long I can feel you squirming around in there.

It really is hard to believe that I am halfway through this pregnancy already. I think I struggle believing it even more when I think about the fact that I didn't believe I would ever get pregnant and stay pregnant again. I had truly given up hope when we got pregnant but now here we are, 20 weeks along expecting a little boy. The first half of this pregnancy has already gone by so fast, so I have no doubt the last half will definitely fly by. The second half is full of holidays so it will definitely go by quickly. The first half wasn't all sunshine and roses but it went pretty well. There was a bit of worry at the beginning thanks to previous losses, but every step of the way I just kept hoping for the best. Then worry was taken over by constant nausea and morning sickness. I definitely never had the this much morning sickness with my pregnancy with Addison. I was frustrated with all the throwing up and feeling so crummy all the time. But then the second trimester came along and I started feeling better. I was still exhausted all the time but I was feeling good overall. Then I started to just get excited. I started looking forward to finding out if we were having a boy or a girl, and of course was thrilled to find out we were having a boy. Even though I ended the first half of this pregnancy being sick thanks to a certain toddler, I'm feeling awesome. I love seeing my bump grow. I love feeling him moving around in there. I'm excited to plan the nursery and shop for clothes. 20 more weeks then we get to meet this little guy and I'm so excited.
