A Pregnancy Story: 21 Weeks

You now weigh about three-quarters of a pound and measure approximately 10-1/2 inches long,
about the size of a carrot. You are moving around like crazy, turning your little movements into full-out kicks and nudges that I will be able to feel. I may even be able to figure out a pattern to your movement and activity as I get to know you. Your eyebrows and eyelids are also developed and present now.

Well this week has kicked off with a bang, i.e. throwing up. I don't know what it is with the first day of each week but that's the day that I always get sick. At least it's only one day, so I'll take it. Overall I definitely am feeling better. I have been still getting over a cold that Addison gave me but overall much better. I have finally found a sleeping position that is comfortable, so I have been sleeping better. I still nap often during the day and the late night baseball games that are keeping me up definitely aren't helping. But I'm getting up less during the night and that is definitely helping me feel better. I'm gaining weight now about a pound a week which makes sense since I'm eating all the time. I definitely envy those women who get thicker hair and clear skin during pregnancy though. My hair seems to be falling out and my face is broken out like a teenager. The hormones aren't so nice to me sometimes. But I can feel you kicking all the time. You are definitely active and moving all the time. You have a tendency to stop moving as soon as your dad puts his hand on my stomach but your sister did the same thing. Personally I love feeling you moving around and kicking. It just lets me know that you are growing away in there.

During my last pregnancy I had gestational diabetes. It had come at a complete shock and it was something I wasn't prepared for. This time around I knew that I was going to have it again with only a 10% of not having it. So I was prepared for it. What I wasn't prepared for was how early I would have to do my first glucose test. But that's just part of having a crummy history of gestational diabetes. However if I passed then I wouldn't be doing the test again until 27-28 weeks. If I failed then I would be doing the 3-hour right away and we would go from there. So I went to my appointment knowing I was going to have to drink that glucose tolerance test drink and dreading it. It was truly as bad as I remembered. Luckily my stomach handled the drink well and not once did I feel like I was going to get sick like the last time I tested with Addison. I read the hour away, bored and dreading the day I have to do the three-hour test. I watched several people come and go then finally my timer went off. I got my blood drawn and I could move on. I then had to wait to get the results. Finally at the end of the week I get the results. I'm currently gestational diabetes free. I will have to test again into my third trimester but right now in my second trimester I'm in the clear.
