A Pregnancy Story: Week 23

At about 11 inches long and weighing in at just over a pound, you are about the size of a large
mango. And now that you are this size, I might be able to see you squirm around in there. You can definitely feel me squirm and dance since your sense of movement is well developed now. Your face is not fully formed, so all you need is a little extra fat to fill you out. In your lungs there are blood vessels developing that will prepare you for breathing. You are also listening to outside noises and getting used to all of it, so hopefully now it won't faze you when you are outside the womb.

Just like clockwork on the first day of this week I threw up. I have to say that I'm not a big fan of that. I'm definitely starting to put on weight now, which means I'm worrying less about you getting what you need. I'm definitely aware of what I'm eating since certain things make me sick and I'm still exercising regularly, but I'm eating all the time and you are growing away. You keep moving so it's hard to feel you kicking sometimes which makes me a little nervous but you always get at least one good kick in a day which makes me feel better. My back is definitely aching quite a bit but nothing I can't deal with. That's pretty normal since the front side of me is growing bigger and my back is doing a lot of supporting work. The weeks are flying by and every day I get more excited about meeting you. Of course I have no idea what to do with little boys but I'm excited to figure it out.

How far along: 23 weeks. Due date is March 5 even though he is measuring about a week ahead.

How big is baby: He's the size of a mango and growing away.

Total weight gain: I have only gained about 2-3 pounds total because I lost weight during my first trimester but I am definitely putting on about a pound a week now.

Clothes: I wear all maternity pants. Elastic waist are my friend. My shirts are still a mix right now but mostly I like the maternity shirts because they fit me much better than most of my regular shirts. I hate constantly having to pull down my shirt because it's riding up over my little bump.

Purchases: I have gotten him some clothes. I always pick out one special outfit for coming home from the hospital and I found the one I love already. Just like with Addie, that outfit he will wear until he grows out of it then it will go into his box to keep. That's the only outfit I don't share. I have also started putting together his nursery so I have gotten some things for his room. But mostly just clothes so we don't need much.

Movement: I feel him moving all the time. He's definitely a nighttime mover. Sometimes if I lay down at Addie's naptime I can feel him moving around but mostly there most movement is at night. Lately he's been sitting low so it's sometimes hard to feel him but he still gives me a couple good strong kicks every day.

Sleep: I wish this was going better. I have trouble getting comfortable. I don't have to get up every night to pee but that doesn't mean I'm sleeping any better. It's a constant struggle to get comfortable.

Food cravings/aversions: I don't have a ton of cravings or aversions anymore. Tacos and eggs are my biggest aversions. Nothing I'm craving constantly these days.

What I miss: I miss comfortably sleeping. I miss bending over without a belly getting in the way making it uncomfortable.

What I'm looking forward to: Of course meeting the little guy. But right now I'm looking forward to my next ultrasound because we will get to see him again and get to see him better.

Husband update: He's tolerating my mood swings mostly. I think he's tired of having some many pillows on the bed separating us. He's excited that he can finally feel the baby moving, however whenever I tell him I'm feeling lots of kicks and he puts his hand on my stomach the little guy stops kicking. But despite that he has been able to feel some kicks.
