A Pregnancy Story: Week 24

You are growing like crazy, supposedly gaining about 4 ounces in the last week, so you should be
weighing in at about 1 1/3 pounds. You are also about a foot long, making you about the size of an ear of corn. You're pretty lean right now, but as you continue to grow you will start plumping up and filling out proportionally. Your skin is starting to change from see-through to more opaque, although it is pretty thin and translucent. While your brain continues to developing quickly, your taste buds are continuing to develop. Your lungs are also developing "branches" and your cells are producing surfactant, which will help your air sacs inflate once you are born.

Big week! 24 weeks means viability week. You are definitely not welcome out here yet but viability is huge. It's just hard to believe how fast this is all going. I can feel you kicking all the time and I get more and more excited to meet you. I can't wait to see who you will become and what you will like. This week has been a moody one. I don't know if it has been the change in the weather or plain old hormones but I have been cranky and in a crummy mood for most of the week. You move around like crazy. Every day around Addie's nap time you start kicking a bunch and don't really stop until I go to bed. The bigger you get the more I can feel you and I really love it. I think you are definitely more wiggly than Addison was. However the bigger you get the more my back hurts. I know the exercise I'm doing is helping but that doesn't mean you don't shove your feet into my rib cage from time to time causing pain until you decide to move. Much like your sister, you are measuring long which means you are already fighting for space in there. More often than not my bladder or lungs lose the battle for space while you wiggle around.

I will be the first to admit that I'm a grouchy pregnant lady. Pregnancy doesn't agree with me. But it's not all bad. There are definitely some upsides to pregnancy. The obvious upside is that the end result is pretty awesome. When I was pregnant with Addison I knew that it was worth it but I had no idea how much it was worth it. But this time I know. I know how truly amazing it is. But there are little things through pregnancy that pull me through. I love feeling the kicks. I love feeling him move. I can never get enough of feeling him moving and kicking. Another amazing thing is hearing the baby's heartbeat at every appointment. It's one of those things that always sets my mind at ease and makes me smile. It's a pretty amazing feeling knowing that you are growing a human being - that you ae responsible for this tiny little person. There is of course some weird awesome things. I love the crazy dreams. They are pretty entertaining. Pants with elastic waist is fabulous. I didn't shop much for Addison but this time I have been able to shop for some baby clothes and I love it. When I'm having a bad pregnancy day I try to remind myself of the good things - the big things and the little. Honestly him kicking is always enough to remind me, but sometimes you need other reminders too.
