A Pregnancy Story: 30 Weeks

Now at 15.7 inches long and almost 3 pounds, you are about the size of a large cabbage. You are
taking up more and more room in there which means that there is less room for amniotic fluid, which is now at about a pint and a half, which will only shrink as you continue to grow. Your eyesight is developing, but it is not very good right now. You will keep your eyes closed most of the time anyway. But when they are open you will have 20/400 vision (adults have 20/20 vision via natural or with the help of glasses, contacts or surgery), so you will only be able to see objects just a few inches from your face for a while after you are born.

I feel like I need to sleep a week after doing so much traveling. It really is exhausting. But I think just sleeping in my own bed has helped with that. There has been a lot to do around the house as far as getting Christmas presents put away and Christmas decorations cleaned up and just a general house cleaning. I have noticed that if I do too much then I get little Braxton Hicks contractions. I'm not a fan. I think I rather be really lazy and skip those. This week I gained two pounds instead of my usual one pound but that could be because of all the delicious Christmas food. But it could be because you are growing like crazy. I know that because you are cramped in there and making us both a little uncomfortable pretty much all the time. You are sill moving around like crazy, which I love as much now as I did when you first started moving. Although sometimes it hurts a little more than it did in the beginning because you are a strong little boy. I just can't believe how far along we are. I still feel completely unprepared but I'm also feeling really excited about actually meeting you. Lately I've been having surreal moments when I can't believe this is all actually happening and we are so close to meeting you!

How far along: 30 weeks. How did that happen?

How big is baby: The size of a large cabbage, although he has been measuring about a week ahead.

Total weight gain: Just about 10 pounds.

Clothes: Lots of maternity clothes. Okay so maybe lots of sweatpants but that's the beauty of winter. You can just stay in the house out of the cold in sweatpants and comfortable.

Purchases: I have been working on a list of what we actually need but nothing new other than a new blanket.

Movement: He doesn't stop moving. Luckily he doesn't keep me up at night.

Sleep: What is that again? I'm getting up usually about twice a night to go to the bathroom but otherwise sleeping through the night. I just wish I felt better rested in the morning.

Food cravings/aversions: Nothing really. The same aversions I've had since the beginning are still aversions, mostly eggs. But no new cravings

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach and not having constant back pain.

What I'm looking forward to: Meeting baby boy. But in the sooner future I'm looking forward to bedtime. And in the slightly more distant but yet sooner future, I'm looking forward to pulling baby stuff back out and doing some baby shopping.

Husband update: The husband is doing good. I think he's happy to be back home from all the traveling and our king size bed because I take up a lot of room when I sleep. He's been getting a kick out of my pregnancy brain which seems to be more frequent and even crazier these days.
