A Pregnancy Story: Week 34

You are about the size of a cantaloupe, weighing about 4 3/4 pounds and measuring about 18 inches
long. You are getting rounder and filling out via fat layers that will help regulate body temperature once you're born. Every week your lungs and central nervous system continues to mature, which means that in theory you could be born now and be just fine. But it's best that you stay in there as long as possible in order for your lungs to mature as much as possible.

I'm all kinds of hormonal these days. The littlest things set me off and make me want to cry. Add that to the exhaustion because you don't want me to cry and I'm a mess. I'm definitely not ready to see you yet because it's too soon but I am also so ready to see you. I get winded really easily because you seem to like my lungs. I'm kind of ready to be able to breathe normally again. Sleep has been a little easier to come by this week. I'm still getting up multiple times in the night but at least I'm sleeping a little better in-between. I'm still having my fair share of Braxton Hicks contractions, which are anything but fun. They are getting a little stronger than they were earlier on. You are still doing a lot of moving. You have had a lot of hiccups this week which I got to say drive me crazy but there's nothing either of us can do about it. I do like feeling you moving though because it lets me know that you are doing good in there. Mostly it's just a lot of waiting. We are so close to full term and so close you being able to be here without worrying about a trip to the NICU. I am getting more excited and more anxious with every passing day. Your dad thinks you are going to be early like your sister but I'm not so sure. I'm starting to think that you are going to be my late-comer, taking your sweet time coming to meet us.

This week we had our appointment which Rob likes to call "closing on our baby." I don't know how it is at other hospital but the hospital we use, we go to a pre-admissions appointment so we can fill out paperwork and go over details before I actually go into labor. It makes it easier than trying to do it while dealing with the whole having a baby thing. So much like we did when we had Addison we headed into the appointment with our three-year-old in tow. We didn't need any source of entertainment for her because she played quietly with the few toys in the office while we went over things. Most were the same and I remembered a little more than I thought but there has been a few changes since we were there three years ago. And even more, the building has gone through some changes since we were there three years ago. So after we got all our paperwork and signed what we needed to sign, we went for a quick tour of the maternity ward and how it will work the day I go into labor. Again it was mostly like I remembered with some improvements here and there. It definitely made it feel more real, as if the constant kicking and never-ending trips to the bathroom weren't enough. It's nice to have one more thing taken care of and out of the way in preparation of his arrival.
