Our Food Horror Story // Happy Friday

So way back when when I decided that I wanted to learn to cook, we tried a lot of recipes. I had a lot of duds back then. Some of it was because we just didn't like the recipe and other times it was because I messed up in some way and it turned out a disaster. That happened more than I want to admit but it happened and it's how I learned. These days I'm a much better cook thank goodness otherwise we would eat out much more than we already do.

Way back in December 2011, I made the most disastrous meal we ever had. I had planned to do some kind of pita pizza which seems innocent enough except for the fact that we waited too long and some of the fresh ingredients that went on the pizza went bad. But we still had some cheese and the pitas so we decided to go with it. I sure also noted that this was the first time I just went with what I had and didn't follow a recipe - let's just say this meal encouraged me not to do that for awhile.

So we decided to use what we have. I put some olive oil on the pita then some feta followed by some pepperoni then some fontina then some mozzarella.

If you are thinking that that sounds weird and a little gross.

Then you would be correct.

We sat down to eat and I was busy talking about something or another while Rob sat eating quietly and listening. Finally I finished talking about whatever I was saying and took a bite. In the middle of chewing I told him, "This is the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten." Rob looked up at me and with a completely serious face and an empty plate, "Yes it was."

We got a good laugh about the fact that it was seriously gross but yet Rob ate the whole thing. It was that moment that I truly believed Rob when he said he would eat anything.

It took me a long time before I did anything but what the recipe said. And we still, almost five years later, laugh about this meal. It's definitely our most memorable ones and we have had some strange ones.

Eat something delicious!
Have a great weekend!
Happy Friday!
