Raise the Doors

We have been in this house for almost four years now. This isn't the house where we plan to stay forever because we hope to move in the next few years. Which means we are doing doing things to help this house sell but also doing things to help us now. We always like saving movie which unfortunately means spending money sometimes.

This is something we have talked about doing for some time now. And in this case, we actually needed to do because a part on my garage door broke and has to be used manually. Rob actually switched sides with me because it has been broken for months now (since I was pregnant) so I didn't have to lift it and deal with it. But finally we decided it was time to do something about it.

A couple weeks after Connor was born we met with Overhead Door for a quote and decided it was time to bite the bullet. We had the money, we just needed to get the doors and motors ordered and go for it. We had several options before us. We could just replace one side or just the motors or just the doors. In the end the we decided to replace both sides (although we would have replaced both doors at the same time because otherwise it would have looked super weird). We were looking to improve the value of our home but our doors were original to the house and letting in a lot of outside air so not so good for the heating and cooling cost.

We chose everything, paid our down payment and waited for the call of installment.

It took about a month but finally the call came and we set our date. I was oddly excited about getting the doors. I had been using Rob's side which wasn't so bad when it was just Addison but now trying to get Connor inside as well was proving to be a challenge that I wasn't enjoying. So I was more than ready to have my side back again.

But before they could install we had to clean out the garage so they had plenty of room to work on the day. Turned out cleaning out the garage was a good half day activity. We needed to clean out the garage even without getting new garage doors and it felt good to get things thrown away and sorted out.

We also had a bubble break.

We did get the garage cleaned and everything out of the way for Overhead Door to come and get the doors and motors installed. They came in the morning and where here a total of 3 hours working before they were on their way. It was a quick easy install. They took down the old doors and motors, put up the new stuff and took away the old stuff. Then just like that we have working garages again and things back to normal.

The motors are so quiet and the garage is definitely darker without the windows in the doors. But they sure are nice. My only complaint is that they are a different color from the house and it kind of drives me crazy, but it was really the only option we had color-wise, so I'm trying to just get over it. It's just nice to have another big project done with.

xo, B
