Blue Apron

I have been struggling quite a bit with food and cooking lately. I try and sit down to plan a meal and I struggle all the way through this process every week. Then after I spend way too much time trying to figure out what we are going to eat and the grocery list I finally go grocery shopping - with two kids in tow of course - and I struggle through that. Not only do I have trouble finding everything I need most of the time and have to go to more than one store (which sucks with two kids although I don't usually go to a second store right then but wait for Rob). So I get everything home and put away and I think the woes are over. Except that I have to cook food now which has been harder than normal lately and it has very little to do with the kids but more to do with the fact that I feel stuck and don't enjoy it as much. Cooking which used to be fun and an adventure has now become a chore. So we eat out more than we should and the raw ingredients go bad or eat sub-par food. I'm just not excited about cooking or meal planning or dealing with food at all. Quite frankly I doubt I would eat if I didn't have to. I'm not what you would call a foodie.

So I decided I need a change. I'm tired of dreading cooking and food. For while now I have been hearing about all these companies that will send you recipes and the food. They do the meal planning for you. So two weeks ago I decided to take the plunge. I was frustrated with our food situation again and that day I had gotten a coupon in the mail to try one of those services out and I decided to go for it.

I went with Blue Apron. They were the ones who sent me the coupon so they are the lucky ones we are trying first. I have heard some good thing about this company so I was all a go. We went with the three meals a week program and after planning for the first delivery I was really excited about what was to come the next week.

When I got my delivery on Wednesday I opened the box and it smelled delicious. And for the first time in months I was excited about cooking.

Our first night we went with the Greek Pizza and it was delicious. Rob wasn't as in love with it as I was although he still liked it. I really liked it. I even had enjoyed the olives on it and I hate olives - granted the olive pieces were tiny but it still add an extra taste that I really enjoyed.

The next night we had Crispy Cod Tacos which was completely new to me. I had never had cod. I didn't know if it was a really fishy fish or if what it tasted like. I hadn't even really had a radish before. I love that this gives me a chance to try things I might not normally try and learn to cook more things. These were pretty good. The cabbage mix I made had a little more spice than I would have liked but I was surprised to learn that cod really wasn't bad at all.

Our third meal was Spring Chicken Fettuccine. This one probably most resembled one I would chose when I am looking for a new and different meal to try. It was pretty good. The rosemary was a bit strong for me but otherwise it was a really good.

I enjoyed trying new things and cooking new things. Opening that box was seriously delicious and for the first time I was excited about cooking. I was even good with cooking on a Saturday because I enjoyed doing it for the first time which is something I hadn't done in a long time. It was fun and the food was good. I look forward to another week of new meals next week!

xo, B
