Sweet Dreams Baby Boy

I was convinced before we had Connor that I would end up with a baby who hated sleeping. We got really lucky with Addison and her sleeping habits. She would go to bed at 8 at night then wouldn't get up until 8 the next morning. She would also take 3-4 hour afternoon naps. Of course since then things have changed. She still sleeps about 12 hours at night, give or take depending on the day. But for the most part she has dropped her naps, only sleeping occasionally.

So we were sure our next baby would be an awful sleeper. We were sure he would just never get any sleep at all which meant we would never get any sleep at night. But from the moment he was born, he's always been a great sleeper. Right away he was easy to put to sleep, and only would get up three to five times a night before going back to sleep. He wasn't sure a fan of sleeping in his port-a-crib out of the gate and wanted to be held to sleep. But it didn't take long for him to drop to eating at 8 then again at midnight then again at 3 then the first day feed at 7. Then he started sleeping easily in his port-a-crib.

Naps were another story. He wanted to be held or rocked. He didn't want to sleep in his port-a-crib ever. I looked into when Addie started napping by herself and it wasn't until 4 months but she slept regularly in her crib. I was definitely disappointed that it would take that long. But then I decided I was just going to get him in his crib for just one nap at day. I needed a break and he would sleep better.

Then one nap turned into two naps and those naps were each a couple hours. And just like that he also started sleeping through the night - first 6 hours then 8 and finally now 11 hours.

And now we have a routine and one that works pretty good.

In the morning he gets up between 7-8 for the day. He eats and we do our thing then about an hour and a half to two hours after getting up, I get him down for another nap. That first nap is usually not too long lasting about an hour or so (again give or take depending on the day). Then we repeat. He gets up, he eats, then we do our thing consisting of tummy time and playing on his play mat. Then he goes down again midday for his long nap. His long nap is usually between 3-5 hours long (and it's also the one that I usually try to convince Addison to go down for quiet time too). Then repeat. The late afternoon/evening one is the one that I struggle with the most. He never wants to go back down in his port-a-crib. He will snooze a little in his bouncer or in his carseat when we run errands after Rob gets home. Then he goes at 8 after a night bottle and we start again the next morning.

It's a pretty good schedule. Not only are we blessed with a good sleeper, we have an easy sleeper. For his naps I put him in his port-a-crib, sit next to him sometimes sing or hum or shush then it takes about ten minutes and he's asleep. For the most part when he goes down at night, we put him down and walk away and that's it. We have our days when it isn't that easy but mostly it is truly that easy.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself because we are so lucky with such an easy kid. I know everything could change in an heartbeat so for now I'm taking full advantage and completely loving it. One of the hardest part of having a baby around is getting him to sleep. And for us we are extremely lucky.

Comment below: How does your baby sleep? How long did it take for him/her to sleep through the night and what is your nap time routine?
