Connor James: 5 Months

Dear Connor::

I can't believe you are already 5 months! You are just growing so fast. And luckily we haven't gotten tired of you yet - in fact, every day we love you more and more. You have such a great personality and I love seeing more and more of it every day.

The biggest thing this last month is that we started rice cereal. You are not a fan. In fact you act almost disappointed. You have been so interested in our food and you watch everything we eat, but when we gave you rice cereal the first time, you looked disappointed. You didn't appreciate the cereal. Every time you have had it since the first time you take it a little better but you still aren't fond of it. You still stare at our food, clearly wanting what we have over anything we give you. It'll come. I think you'll like when we get to vegetables a lot more because it's going to taste at least a better than bland rice cereal. But for now you're just stuck with the rice cereal and you deal with it even though you don't like it.

Otherwise you are still eating like a pro. You have a pretty regular schedule with your bottles now, which is definitely nice. You do a mix of 8 ounce bottles and 6 ounce bottles with cereal twice a day. You are really pretty easy when it comes to food. Although you are pretty easy all around in truth.

You are so much more vocal lately. You are learning now to squeal and make more noises. You actually sound identical to your sister when you laugh - it starts out with a low chuckle then grows into a squeal. It's pretty adorable. You also have a tendency to go from zero to sixty pretty quick. You will be perfectly fine then it's like you decide that you are hungry and you just start screaming without warning. It definitely catches me off guard sometimes.

The last month has been a little tricky with naps. Sometimes you are all for them but other times you aren't interested at all. There are weeks that I fight you for a good morning nap but get a great afternoon nap then other weeks it's the exact opposite. You at least get one good nap a day; it's just that not all your naps are as long as I would like them to be. You are going a little longer between naps, usually staying up about 2 hours between naps before you go down again. Mostly I just go off if you are looking tired and need to go down. Bedtime still goes great. You are sleeping through the night without a problem. A couple days you woke up earlier than normal because you are scooting around in your crib and you get your legs stuck outside the crib. Turns out you aren't so fond of that and that's the beginning of our day.

You are a lot more interactive these days. You love to bat at toys hanging in front of you. You have a doll that you chew on like it's going out of style. You are so interested in books. You lean in close and study the pictures then feel the book. You also love music. If you are upset in the car then it's the fastest way to calm you down. You love all the toys that light up and play music. You also love to be up and bouncing in your exersaucer. In fact any time you are up and standing makes you happy. You are pretty easy to please. You just want to watch and see everything. You are very interested in the world around you.

Just recently we started putting you up in the front of the cart which you love being upright. You do okay in the car seat but you really rather be sitting upright then leaned back in the car seat. You are also trying to roll from your back to your tummy. You get yourself on your side and twisted around but you just can't quite get yourself all the way over yet. I have no doubt that it's coming soon. I also think a tooth isn't far behind either. You are chewing on everything and drooling like crazy. We can see a little bit of a tooth on the bottom but it hasn't quite popped through yet.

You are just growing so quickly. I love how happy you are all the time. I love how easy you are. I love how you smile every time I come into your room after naptime or in the morning. I love how you watch your big sister and chatter with her. I love how your face lights up when your dad gets home and stares at his picture, touching his face. You are my little boy and I just can't get enough of you. I love you so much, goon.

Love, Mama
