Doodle

I have never been much of an artist. My artistic skills are very limited. So limited that I struggle with drawing a simple heart or a stick person (who usually ends up with a losided beheaded head - not so cute). But for some reason during the month of July I was going to do a doodle a day challenge. Honestly I couldn't really pin down why I got that into my head but I did and I was starting to feel a little insane. What was I thinking? - I can't draw or even doodle!

I spent some time searching for a doodle challenge and just decided to go with it. Well to be perfect honestly I looked at day one to see how hard at least the first day would be. The one I found just happened to have stars as the first doodle. I figured I could handle that.

Turns out I wasn't so great at the stars. It didn't exactly give me high hopes for the rest of the challenge but I was going to push forward - no clue where this can-do attitude suddenly came from to be perfectly honest.

But then I saw day two which was desert. What?! I can't doodle a desert! But again for some reason I decided to push ahead and I tried. I learned while I was trying to draw day two that I definitely needed to find something online to inspire me, to draw from. I just couldn't or at least at this point draw from nothing. Maybe that's something to aim for.

So day two and I was so proud of myself. I mean like seriously proud of myself and I couldn't wait to continue on.

I have learned throughout this last month to slow down my hand. Drawing doesn't come naturally to me and some things are definitely harder than others, but I was sure I could do any of the prompts if I just slowed down and had a good eraser.

Some days were better than other days. Some days I was really proud of my doodle and other days I was glad to turn the page and hide my drawing. So I thought I would share some of my favorites from the month and a few of the missteps because that's kind of the fun part of seeing something like this.

So first my favorites from this last month (which includes that desert drawing by the way):

I think the last day of the shark and the camper are my very favorites. I really like that shark.

And now for the ones you are looking forward to seeing, some of the duds of the month:

Yeah that's embarrassing....

The first picture was supposed to a picnic. I couldn't think of anything and failed all around I guess. The second picture is a shell and that is definitely not a shell. The last picture - hey it says it right there - is a hat and for some reason I chose a pirate hat and it started out okay but the poor skull. There is something seriously wrong with it. That one was definitely one I was glad to turn the page on.

So overall I had an awesome month of doodling. And I'm going on with this challenge into August. And just like last month I have so far really enjoyed the process. This month I am doing it slightly differently since I'm not doing it in my bullet journal but in another notebook where I am doing a few other challenges (I'll share all about that later!).

I never thought I would be one to say that I have enjoyed drawing but I really have. And I'm really proud of myself for taking on this challenge in the first place and being somewhat successful along the way. So here's to another month of doodling!
