Connor James: 20 Months

Dear Connor:

Hey buddy. Another month has flown by and you are another month older. I look at that number and we just keep inching closer to two and boy is that hard to see. I'm not ready for a two-year-old yet. I just want my immobilize, always sleeping kid again. Okay, so maybe not completely because you are a pretty awesome kid now at 20 months.

You are so active and so awesome and you completely wear me out. Lately you have been all about mama except in the morning. You pretty much only want me to put you down at nap and bedtimes. You are definitely all about routine and you and me definitely have that. But in the morning, all we hear over the monitor is you calling for dada then you are all about the daddy hugs in the mornings. You just can't get enough of them when you first get up, then you switch gears and it's all mama.

You are all about cars and trains these days. You love to build up the bridge and send them back and forth. However lately you have been getting extremely frustrated with the magnets on the trains. You want them to stick together but for some reason magnets are your downfall. You just can't understand. I'm hoping you will get it figured out soon because the crying that comes with you struggling to keep them together is a bit frustrating.

I always heard from people who had boys that they could never get them to sit down long enough to read books so I wondered if that would be an issue with you. But so far so good. You bring me books throughout the day and you love reading at bedtime and naptime (if you are still awake after the drive home from dropping Addison off). Your favorite books are Giraffes Can't Dance (hands down no contest) and a Moana book. You still deeply love Moana. You can't get enough of the music and constantly want me to play it in the car. However Mickey is still in the running as your favorite. Mickey is definitely the one thing I know for sure that if I turn it on and leave you with it, you will still be in the same place when I return.

Honestly you aren't doing much talking. You do a little repeating and you have mama, dada, and moon down but otherwise you don't say much. There are a lot of sounds and grunts and squeals but no words. Truthfully that worries me a little but I'm hoping you will take off in the next month or so (your doctor said it's pretty common for kids who aren't speaking much to just kind of take off talking by 21 months, so here's hoping). So for now we are encouraging a lot of sign language which you are picking up quickly and trying to get you to talk the best we can. Just like with the speech delay with your sister, you are frustrated that you can't communicate back with so you are throwing tantrums, and I can't blame you for being frustrated.

You are my earlier raiser. I can't complain too much because very rarely are you up before 7 but you definitely get up earlier than your sister ever did. But overall you still sleep really well. You go to bed at 8 and you are usually up anywhere from 7:30-8:00 the next morning. On days that Addison has school you fall asleep about 12:40 or so and then I wake up back up at 3. You would easily sleep longer and normally do on days I don't have to wake you up which I always love. I definitely don't have any complaints about your sleeping!

You are just doing so good. You have so much life and personality. You are funny and are always making all of us laugh. I really love how much you love your sister. You just adore her. I'm so lucky to be your mom, kid. I love you so much, goon.

Love, Mama
