Goals & Word of the Year

Hello 2018!

Anyone else have high hopes about this year? Honestly I have had a rough last couple of years. It started with the struggle to get pregnant with Connor then it just seems to be one thing after another since including a stay in the hospital for Addison and a knee surgery and my struggle through recovery, among the bigger things.

Of course it hasn't been all bad. I survived knee surgery and am on the mend (still). Addison was discharged from her IEP and is now considered a peer which means years of her being behind and she has finally caught up. Connor is a healthy, happy kid who despite what we were told has no birth defects and is all good. Plus we moved to a new house which we all love which is a huge thing for us and pretty dang awesome.

But that's all in the past and there's not anything I can do about those things - good or bad - now. A new year definitely means a fresh start. There's something very refreshing about making goals and looking forward and making plans. That being said I didn't really make any goals going into 2017 so I can't really say how I did overall. I guess my only goal for the year was to recover from knee surgery which I would say I'm back at about 70%. It's more than I was this time last year for sure.

But this year I have made goals for myself. I have actually taken the time to write down those goals - which I don't usually like doing because it feels harder somehow when they don't happen (my own fault of course). But there is something to committing them to paper and there's all kinds of things out there that say by writing it down it has a better chance of actually happening or something like that.

So I set myself the task of writing down a collection of goals for the year, plus a word for the year. Last year I did word of the month but I feel like I need a word that I can focus on for the entire year and really work towards. Although I'm not going to be sharing all of my goals, here's a few of my goals for 2018.

→ Write in my journal everyday
→ Read 30 books
→ Take pictures every week (52 week challenge)
→ Edit first draft of my Nanowrimo novel
→ Cut caffeine/sugar down to once a week

That's just a few of my goals for this year. I have more that range from physical (exercise, weight, PCOS releated) to shop goals to just personal goals. But I wanted to have a collection of things to aim towards over the course of the year.

In addition I have chose my word of the year. This year I'm focusing on the word empower. I chose this word because this is my year of taking power over my life and not letting anxiety, depression, my PCOS have that power. So that's my focus this year.

I'm looking forward to the fresh start that the new year gives. Here's to 2018!
