Connor James: 28 Months

Dear Connor:

Another month has come and gone. You have changed so much and so little at the same time. We got you another hair cut, which you still don't love doing, and you look so much older. You are still just my two year old with so much energy and spirit, but at the same time you are growing so fast.

Apparently this was the month of extreme picky eating. I just can't seem to keep your interest with any food. If it has any spice at all to it then you don't eat it. If it looks different at all then you don't eat it. If you think you can get out of eating dinner and just eat snacks then you don't eat it. We had to go through a few times of you eating at bedtime before we cut you off from that because we figured out you figured out that gets you out of dinner and also stalls bedtime. Lately it's been so hit and miss with what you will eat and what you won't touch and every time I make dinner I pretty much have no idea how it will go.

So one of the cutest things about you is actually how clumsy you are. You are a mess on your feet. Luckily one of the best things about you is that you fall down a lot but you always just get back up again. It's a rare day that you don't just get back to your feet and get going. That's how we know it really hurt. You do like to have a kiss but that's about all you need to get going again. I just love how tough you are which is good because you really are so clumsy.

The not so pleasant thing lately has been your recent fear of the dark. We have always had a light night in your room and we would just close your door at night. Then you wanted your door open a crack. Now you want the hallway string lights left on and every once in awhile you even want the laundry room, which is right across from your room, light left on, with your door left more open. And even with all that it isn't always enough for you to settle.

Along with the fear of the dark, you have also started having bad dreams which means you have been showing up in our room in the middle of the night. Kid, I'm exhausted with your middle of the night visits. We have tried everything to get your to settle back down after a bad dream which all you will/can tell us is "scary." Daddy has been checking your room each time but even then it's not always enough. It's hard for you to understand that it's just a dream and not real. So like I said, we've all been a little extra tired lately.

I think the best thing is how much more you are talking. I am so proud of you. You are expressing yourself so much. You have so much say. You speak for yourself. You are really funny. You are speaking in a lot of two word sentences. There is still a lot of repeating but we can now have a very simple conversation and it's made a world of difference during the day. I love hearing all that you have to say.

You are such an amazing kid. You have so much life and energy. You are forever keeping me on my toes. You are funny. Your growling kills me. You love giving out hugs and kisses. You are still a mama's boy which I love, but you sure do love playing with daddy. You adore your sister and can't get enough of Stella cat. You bring so much to our house and I can't imagine life without you. I love you so much, buddy.

Love, Mama
