A Year in the House

Technically we have been here for over a year now and I'm a little behind but that's okay. It's hard to believe that it has only been a year in this house because it definitely has felt like much longer. Almost immediately this felt like this house was built for us and the kids took it to it so quickly. There was really no adjustment period for the kids, although there was a lot of all-night crying from Stella Cat which was rough.

Over the course of the year we have been here, we have only found a few complaints about the house itself. My biggest complaint is definitely that the walls were not painted with washable paint and as it turns out my kids touch the walls a lot. They have definitely given it the kids-live-here feel to this house. Our furnace also rumbles the floor in the dining room which we have since learned is due to a lack of air intake. It's confusing and annoying that the house wasn't built as well as it should have been initially. We also had a dishwasher issue for awhile but learned that it was due to not using the pods which has fixed our problems there at least.

There are moments that I think about the old house. Sometimes I think about what the new owners have changed about it and other times I just think about what life was like living there. Although it was frustrating as a stay-at-home mom to live in a house with the rooms so split I do have fond memories in that house. It was the first house we brought together and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Although I do seriously miss the neighborhood.

This house definitely feels like home now though. And it pretty much did from the moment we moved in. It just felt right for us. Just having the kitchen and the living room on the same level has been a complete game changer for me. Heck being pregnant and having a bathroom on the main level has been pretty amazing.

I have slowly been adding our own touches to the house but in so many ways I haven't figured out how I want things decorated even a year later. But in other rooms I love how the room has come together. But since we have decided this to be our forever house, I have some time to figure out what I want. Plus I shouldn't make any decisions when I'm pregnant because I always doubt my decisions and half the time don't care of the decision I actually made (that's how we ended up with the first house I ended up hating).

My favorite rooms is definitely the kitchen. I love having the counter space and the pantry room. I have been able to make everything work for me to make all the time I spend in the kitchen as easy as possible. I do love the living room especially in the winter when we have the fireplace on because it's so cozy. My second favorite room though is my bedroom. I love having the room and even being able to having a little reading nook with our big 1 1/2 chair in it. Plus I'm not hating the size of our bathroom considering we did have a tiny tiny tiny bathroom before.

It's been a year in this house now and we love it. All the headache of moving is long gone and we definitely have no plans to move anytime soon. We love this house and how well it fits our family.

If only I could wash the walls...
