Bump to Baby: Feel the Burn

Exercise has certainly been harder to come by this pregnancy than I feel like it has in the past. My excuse I guess would be that I haven't felt well at all and I have two kids to deal with this time which leaves me with less time in general. Of course those are just excuses and had I really wanted to stick with something I would have made the time.

Not to say I haven't worked out some during these last few months. But it has definitely been all over the place. I have several pregnancy work outs but also I have adapted some regular workouts during this pregnancy.

Some of my favorite workouts are Moms Into Fitness. I love all her workouts, regular or pregnancy. When I was first pregnant with Addison I first learned about her and wasn't sure what to think about her. But it didn't matter much because I didn't really stick with any workouts during that pregnancy. During my pregnancy with Connor I was much better about working out and found that she had released many more pregnancy workouts, plus I also discovered Tracy Anderson's The Pregnancy Project.

So I was quick to pull out all four of my pregnancy workouts and was eager to keep up with working out with this pregnancy. But that changed quickly when the morning sickness really kicked in and I just couldn't get my feet under me. The first trimester really kicked my butt. I worked out off and on but there was nothing consistent about it. But I tried.

When the second trimester hit I hoped that I would start feeling better and I could get back to some kind of consistency. But unfortunately I didn't start feeling better so quick. My morning sickness was still pretty bad and I was just run down a lot. I just couldn't find the motivation. I knew all the benefits to exercising during pregnancy but I just couldn't seem to care. I just didn't want to. And often I would even start a workout, only to give up shortly into it.

Then I started feeling better. I was ready and motivated. Sometimes life did get in the way and I just couldn't seem to figure out a routine that worked that kept me consistent. Then I got bored. I didn't want to do pregnancy workouts. I wanted to do more. I could do more. Of course I would have to modify if I went outside pregnancy workouts but I was okay with that as long as I did something more.

So I tried that. Then after a couple weeks I soon discovered that wasn't going to happen. I was tired. I was sore. My body hurt neck to toes. So that quickly went out the window as something I could do. It was too much after all. So I gave up again.

But logically I know that keeping with something is definitely the best thing for my body during this pregnancy. I don't want to feel so run down. I don't want to be so tired all the time. I don't want to hurt constantly. So I'm trying. I'm not always great at it, but I'm trying to find a routine that works.

I'm sticking with pregnancy workouts now and doing my best to keep with it as I feel up to it. Pregnancy is hard. It's hard on your body. It's hard on your hormones. It's just hard. And I will be one of the first to say that exercising definitely helps with those aches and pains (two different pregnancies up to this point with two different exercise programs or lack there of gives me pretty good evidence of that). So I'm doing my best now and hope that from this month forward I can keep with it.
