Bump to Baby: 36 Weeks

You are not about six pounds and about 18-19 inches long. Your growing is finally starting to slow down so that you can actually fit to come out at birth. But you will still continue to grow a little bit. Your skull is not fused together so your head can maneuver through the birth canal. Actually most of your bones and cartilage are still pretty soft which allows for an easier delivery but they will harden over the first few years of your life. Most of your systems are ready for life outside the womb except for a few. Your lungs continue to mature and also your digestion system won't be fully mature until after birth.

This has definitely been a heck of a week. It's the last week before I hit full term and I am so ready for that be here. Every single part of me aches. I'm also not sleeping
great with several trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I have always developed a sore throat this week and have just been under the weather. My challenge with gestational diabetes has continued. I am now on medicine but that has dropped my numbers quite a bit which means I actually need to eat closer to my normal diet in order to keep my blood sugars from dropping too much. It's definitely a balancing act that I'm tired of dealing with. I'm just really ready for you to come. Which might be soon than we currently have planned. Right now we are set to induce on the 17th but no one thinks I will actually make it that far. At my last OB appointment this week, my doctor checked my cervix and I was 2 cm and 40% effaced so my body is already starting to process. I'm definitely ready. I'm ready to not be pregnant but I'm also very ready to meet you.

How far along? 36 weeks

How big is baby? About six pounds and about 18-19 inches long.Pretty much a full blown baby.

Total weight gain: 10 pounds

Clothes: It's all maternity all the time, plus a lot of sweatpants. Sweatpants are my favorite right now. I wear a lot of hoodies just because they are warm and comfortable. Most of my t-shirts don't fit me anymore, so now it's just an attempt to find anything that fits me.

Purchases: She is getting some stuff in her stockings. Mostly just a book, clothes and a teether - because what else do newborns need? We bought newborn diapers the other day and I have bought a couple outfits because I don't have a ton but otherwise nothing.

Movement: She moves all the time. She is an active little burger. Her favorite activity is putting her foot in my rib cage and pushing until I think I'm dying. Her movements are slowing a lot though because she is just out of room. She still squirms quite a bit though.

Sleep: Her sleep or mine? I'm pretty sure she's sleeping better than me. I am just not able to get comfortable anymore so not so great. Plus you add in a lot of bathroom trips and I'm a mess. I know you don't get a lot of sleep with a newborn but I'm even looking forward to that over this because I feel like I'm not getting any.

Food cravings/aversions: I want caffeine so bad! See above if you're confused about the need for caffeine. This gestational diabetes thing has been a bit of a pain because now that I'm on medicine I have basically gone back to a normal diet - mostly - in order to keep my numbers high enough. It's been wacky. But no major cravings or aversions.

What I miss: Sleeping. Fitting into clothes. Putting my shoes without being so uncomfortable. Being able to move around easier. My hips not hurting. No pain in my back and rib cage. Not having to poke myself four times a day and being worried about my number being too high or like now too low.

What I'm looking forward to: Is there any other answer but caffeine? Ha - just kidding. We are so close and I'm so ready to meet the little girl who's been kicking my ribs and giving me varicose veins.

Husband update: He's been busy trying to make sure he's not leaving his coworkers in a lurch if I suddenly go into labor. But mostly he's a little freaked out because he's not sure he's 100% ready fora third one but at the same time he's also ready. I know he's ready for me to not be pregnant - hint, he came home from a long day the other day and I was crying in the kitchen because I was struggling with dinner and he finished making it and took care of everything. I think he'll miss my wacky pregnancy brain moments though.
