Emma Lynn: Three Weeks

Dear Emma:

It’s hard to believe another week has passed. It has been both a long week and short one. Time is flying by because soon your dad will go back to work and we will have to figure out how to do it all during the day. But boy has this week drug by because this is the week you decided to have trouble settling in the evening, getting yourself overly tired and screaming at us.

But it has been an exciting week too. You had your first Christmas, although you did sleep through it. You also had your first time sleeping a 5 1/2 hour chunk at night which was pretty awesome. Despite our recent evening settling issue, you really are a great sleeper. I read that around this time you go through a witching hour where around that time in the evenings you struggle to settle but this shouldn’t last forever. Some days you do great and you fall right to sleep and other days you just cry at us.

I will admit that this has been an emotional week for me though because we stopped nursing. We had slowly been adding in more and more formula each feeding and I was nursing you when I felt full but that was lengthening out each day. First it was every couple hours then it was every eight hours then it was every twelve hours then suddenly I didn’t feel full at all. And our last nursing session was at 2 in the morning the night after a Christmas. I was definitely more emotional about it then I expected to be but you are doing great on formula. You are eating between 3-4 ounces every four hours or so and I definitely wasn’t not able to provide you that much.

You are already fitting right in with our family. Your brother and sister adore you. You are pretty content - except in that witching hour - and so easy. I love all your baby snuggles and cuddles. You are so amazing already. I love you so much.

Love, Mama
