Throwback

Last month - Valentine's Day to be exact - we tried out Date Night In. It's a box that has everything you need to have a date night at home. They provide you with recipes that go along with the theme and a playlist. In the box itself are different activities and snacks. It includes different topics to talk about and ways to keep the date going with outside activities and movies. Check out what I had to say about last month here.

Well, we loved it so much that we decided to continue on with this. We were both excited about another box and another date. This month was the theme throwback. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect with this one but we did enjoy listening to the music while I made homemade hot pockets and we ate homemade dunkaroos. All of which were pretty good.

We share our dinner with the kids but then wait until they go to bed to continue our date. It took even longer than it did last time to get Emma down and didn't end up officially starting our date until closer to 10. She was being a turkey that night.

But we finally did get to dive in. We started out with basically a trivia game. It was all questions from the 80s and 90s. We were kind of surprised by how many we actually knew between the two of us. There was still a fair amount that we were clueless about but in all fairness we were both born in '86 so we didn't live through much of the '80s and the bit we were alive for, we don't remember so much.

But it was still fun. All the while we enjoyed a Ring Pop, giant Smarties and Pop Rocks. The Pop Rocks were probably the most entertaining for us because Rob had never had them and it had been years since I had. Then we got to play MASH. It wasn't exactly the MASH I remember because I wasn't looking for the house I would live in and the boy I would marry and how many kids I would have as we played back in junior high. (Rob had never played which isn't surprising since it seems like more of a teenage girl activity.) Instead it was about where we would travel, where we would retire, relationship goals, and such. We struggled coming up with all four things for some of the areas but we were also getting tired and probably over-thinking it.

We moved on to the next activity which was Truth, Dare or Karaoke. I went first and ended up with Karaoke to a Michael Jackson song. Don't hate me, but I don't like Michael Jackson. I never cared for his music and I had no idea how to sing the song but I got through and sang - very quietly with Emma sleeping in our room still - the chorus. The game continued with Rob getting almost all truths and me getting the Karaokes and Dares. I knew almost all the Karaoke songs. However from the dares we learned that I can't moonwalk and actually have no idea what they are even doing when moonwalking. In total I actually ended up with four different Michael Jackson related activities which was not my thing. But we still had fun overall.

We ended our evening by turning on Jurassic Park (as suggested - the only other movie we owned was Titanic but we were already pushing close to midnight and Titanic was definitely not going to happen). Of course we both fell asleep about twenty minutes in.

I will admit that I liked the box last month a little more but we still had fun and plan to get another box for next month. It's been a fun way to spend an evening together without just watching a movie or one of us having to come up with everything ourselves. I highly recommend for anyone looking for something different and fun.
