Toss, Paper, Shred

And the declutter continues! Truthfully I am super impressed with myself that I have stuck with this especially with everything else I have going on. But I'm here again with my next section done.

This time it was all about paper. I was actually really excited about this category. We have paper everywhere and it was time to get it under control.

I started with my files. We had a filling cabinet we moved from the old house. But after moving it from its place we noticed it left rust on the carpet. So when we moved in here we were definitely not going to bring it into the house. Turns out I don't do a lot of filing when it's in the garage. Couple that with the fact that it was actually hard to open, it was time for a new system.

I debated many ideas before settling on a sleek box that didn't look like anything to do with files. But I had a lot to go through. I gathered all the papers I could find and put it into a tub then started sorting. I made a recycle pile, a shred pile, a need to find the staple remover pile and a keep pile. It took me awhile but I got through it and felt awesome after finishing, especially since there was so many pages that I was getting rid of.

But I still had a long way to go. My next task was going through Addie's school box. I figured that wouldn't take me long and it didn't. Most of those things were being kept, so I just organized a little more. I still had to go through a tub I had of all her preschool art. My plan was to take pictures of all the pieces then combine the pictures together into a book, so I was only keeping a special few. It took a long time to get through all the art but I was taking pictures of every single piece. It slowed me down further when the kids decided to help and Addie would pick up a piece and before putting it down for me to take a picture, she would tell me that I was just going to love it. I was pretty burnt out by the time I finished that I decided the kindergarten stuff another time.

I next tackled our important documents box which held out will and our old house documents. The will was easy enough. One I kept included both Addison and Connor I kept and one that only had Addison I shredded. Then it would be super easy to just shred the one with just Addison and Connor when we finally got our will which includes Emma. Then I started working through all things house. The old house stuff was easy enough because we didn't need any of it and new house stuff is mostly digital.

After that it was just miscellaneous stuff that was pretty easy to get through. Paper is one of those things that will never really go away. But I have a good handle on it now and it will be much easier to keep it under control. I definitely felt accomplished after finishing this. I threw away and shredded about five bags of papers. Crazy, I know. But it's so easy for paper to take over your life.

I was able to finish faster than I thought so I was proud of myself and felt really good, and excited to move on to the next category.
